It's July. HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA! Summer is in full swing here on the North Shore - time to get to the beach or out on the water. The Office of Coastal Zone Management has a free guidebook that features nearly 400 destinations for daytrips and coastal activities. Copies are available at Beverly City Hall, the Beverly Library and at the SeniorCenter. An online version is available at www.mass.gov/czm/coastguide. CZM also has an Online Locator of Coastal Public Access Sites: www.mass.gov/czm/access/products/access_locator.htm. Cruise Salem Sound on the Schooner Fame or Gloucester Harbor on the Schooner Thomas E. Lannon. Essex River Cruises offers narrated excursions as well as special Wine Tasting Cruises and Cruising Clambakes. For kids ages 9-12, Castle Hill in Ipswich has SummerQuest. Week-long sessions that will get your kids out hiking, kayaking, swimming, drawing, and more. 
Younger children (ages 3 to 6 with accompanying adult) may enjoy Art & Nature Story Time By the Shore, Peabody Essex Museum in Salem - July 27. Marblehead Festival of Arts, Downtown Marblehead, kicks off on July 3 and ends July 6. Lots of fun events and activities as well as plein air painters and juried artists displaying their wares in downtown Marblehead. The Rockport Garden Club will host a Tour of some of Rockport's finest home gardens on July 10-11, 10 am-2 pm. Catch a Concert on the Beverly Common - held Thursday nights from 6-8 pm. The Food Project farmers' market is now open Mondays, 3:30 pm to 7:00 pm, through October at the intersection of Cabot and Church Streets, downtown Beverly. The market features produce grown at local farms including Long Hill in Beverly, by North Shore youths, via the Food Projects summer employment program.
